We often take for granted the foods that we deem healthy without really reading the food labels, and when we do read food labels we look at calories and fat and that’s it. Recently the American Heart Association has put another food ingredient in the spotlight, and that is sugar. Too many of the foods that we believe are healthy and part of a balanced diet contain an alarming amount of sugar. The AHA is recommending no more than 6 tsp of sugar a day, how does your diet compare?
Frozen Vegetarian Pizza (1 slice) = 2 tsp sugar
Oat Bran Cereal (3/4 cup) = 4 tsp sugar
Light Chocolate Soy Milk (8 oz) = 6 tsp sugar
Energy Bar = 6 tsp sugar
Light Salad Dressing (4 tbsp) = 7 tsp sugar
Low Fat Fruit Flavored Yogurt ( 6 oz) = 7 tsp sugar
